The tool is much wanted. It is already available for 42 languages. Its community increases constantly, especially in Germany. With more than 200,000 installations world-wide, it is one of the leading products in this area meanwhile.
Which Advantages has TYPO3
The contents of a website can be simply inputted and worked on at a surface similar to a wordprocessing. That is possible from any computer with internet admission. No HTML knowledge is necessary.
The text itself is completely independent from the design, such that the layout can be changed without renewing the texts. Inversely, the same texts can be used for different designs/sites.
The realization of an internet or intranet site with TYPO3 is relatively fast, such that even complex requirements can be achieved within shortest time.
TYPO3 is conform to the standard and supplies barrierfree design as well as a programming style optimized for search machines. Moreover it is independent of the operating system.
The development of your own extensions is quickly possible with minimal PHP knowledge.
Open Source, what does that mean concretely
With open source projects, the source code is open for adaption and distribution. The development model is in the foreground, i.e. the development itself is supported by the community. There is no support by the producer or developer, but instead by the great active community of users and developers from all over the world and by a large amount of internet agencies. The tool is permanently developed and improved, the extensions are continuously extended. There are many magazines, books, tutorials, forums, news and mailing lists, user meetings and seminars on TYPO3; so knowhow is easily available on the market. Meanwhile TYPO3 is one of the most known open source CMS.
Since 2005, the development is organized and even partly financed by the TYPO3 association, that guarantees an independance of particular interests, allocates ressources for the fundamental reearch, improves the collaboration of the kern developers and provides a security of planning. Meanwhile TYPO3 even provides a learning content at many universities.
